I am Yang Zhi, a full-stack software engineer with a passion for building innovative and user-friendly products. I am particularly interested in emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain. I believe that these technologies have the potential to revolutionize the way we live and work, and I am excited to be a part of that revolution.
This blog is inspired by a seminar that I attended in Beijing. Liang Ning (梁宁), a name you likely have not heard before, is regarded by Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, as Zhongguancun’s top female intellect (中关村第一才女). She spoke about China’s evolving role in the global landscape and began her talk intriguingly by referencing some of the most discussed topics (at least in China) from the first lunar month of 2025: a movie, a large language model, and news about a celebrity.
A glimpse into my year-long journey as an AI engineer in China’s bustling capital. From cutting-edge technology and work life to cultural discoveries and daily adventures, this blog captures the experiences, challenges, and insights gained while living at the crossroads of innovation and tradition.
Choosing Beijing over Silicon Valley reflects my belief in China’s pivotal role in the 21st century. Inspired by insights from Lee Kuan Yew and Ray Dalio, this decision embraces challenges to gain firsthand experience in a transforming global powerhouse, preparing for a future shaped by East-West collaboration.
Participating in NUS Overseas College (NOC) Hanoi was a transformative journey. Through a 3-month software engineering internship, I explored utilising Large Language Models in compliance, gained technical expertise, and immersed myself in Vietnam’s vibrant culture. This experience sharpened my adaptability, broadened my regional perspective, and inspired innovative problem-solving for future challenges.
